About Roger Lavallee/Tremolo Lounge Recording

About Roger

Roger Lavallee has over 30 years’ experience as an engineer and producer. He has been a fixture in the Worcester music scene on both sides of the glass, starting with his band, The Curtain Society in 1988, and since 1990, working in various studios including Mendon Road, Sound of Glass/Tremolo Lounge, Prophet Sound, Player Recording, Newbury Sound, Q Division in Boston, Power Station, Hit Factory in NYC, Sound of Music in Richmond VA, Longview Farms in North Brookfield and Wachusett Recording in Princeton MA. He has worked with a wide variety of artists from rock, blues, folk, indie rock, shoegaze, pop, country, electronic… pretty much anything but maybe Tibetan throat singers, but he’s up for that too.

He has also been a music gear/electronics nerd since Jr. High School in the 80s. He’s been collecting, repairing and building guitar pedals since then, amassing not only an embarrassingly large collection of guitar pedals but an acute knowledge of the history, sonic differences and inner-workings of them. He also collects vintage synthesizers, both keyboard and guitar-based.

Several years ago, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from Pulse Magazine in their Best Music Poll as if he had reached the top of the mountain of his career. Since then, he has probably produced another 200 recordings (a guesstimate), performed 300 more shows (a conservative guess) and built 50 or 60 different versions of the Big Muff pedal. He’s very disappointed that he probably won’t win a second Lifetime Achievement Award, but it’s not just about the trophies.

He’s a life-long music lover, with a wide-ranging tastes and an obsessive attention to the details of classic recordings. Studio clients will often come in with some obscure reference for a hi-hat sound they heard on the bridge of some song they heard on some science filmstrip in 6th grade and he will know exactly what they’re talking about and how to get that sound.
